Explore the natural wonderland of Hinchinbrook Island. The picturesque island is the largest on the Great Barrier Reef, and the largest national park island in Australia. The Hinchinbrook Island tour is the perfect day trip for those seeking to combine nature with adventure, featuring rainforest walks to famous natural landmarks.
GETTING THERE
Orpheus guests can reach Hinchinbrook Island via a one-hour boat charter organised by the lodge. The journey there is an adventure in itself, taking in the surreal views of the Great Barrier Reef and spotting saltwater crocodiles in the Hinchinbrook waterways.
ZOE FALLS
During a 40-minute hike along rainforest-clad trails, cool down in the freshwater pool at the base of the majestic waterfall at Zoe Falls. Visitors also have the opportunity to climb the granite slabs to reach the top of the waterfall. The panoramic views from the top are absolutely breathtaking – definitely well worth the climb.
WILDLIFE
Hinchinbrook Island is a place of refuge for various endangered wildlife species. Lucky visitors may be able to spot the snubfin dolphin, a rare and endangered species endemic to Australian waters. You may also be able to find dugongs, turtles and estuarine crocodiles in the Hinchinbrook waterways. Like Orpheus, Hinchinbrook Island is also home to an abundance of birds, including pied-imperial pigeons and beach-stone curlews.
