Sunshine Coast Breweries

There’s a new new wave of boutique breweries popping up all over the Sunshine Coast, striving to bring people together over a shared love for quality beer. From the Northern point of the Sunshine Coast, right down to the South, we have compiled a list of our must try Sunshine Coast Breweries.

Bonsai Brew House – Cooran
This rustic brewery has recently re-opened in the Noosa Hinterland and is owned by Matt Vanderveen, ex-head brewer at the Sunshine Coast Brewery. It’s eclectic, with mismatched vintage furniture, plenty of greenery and a passion for craft beer. Matt is dedicated to creativity, preferring not to stick to set styles. With brews like the Sungazer with local ginger, raw honey and organic green tea, it’s easy to see why Bonsai is loved by locals. New beers, often named by loved ones and locals, are always in the making, sticking to the Breweries love for its community and it’s friendly carefree vibe.

Copper Head Brewery – Cooroy
Copperhead Brewery is a small batch, bespoke brewery with a strong focus on quality food and beer to be enjoyed on premises. Their beer is 100% pure and unfiltered with 7 sessionable beers on tap and rotating experimental beers each season. With exposed brick walls and floor to ceiling glass windows, the venue exudes industrial charm. There is a similar focus on food, so sit down for a meal and a brew, or book the venue out for your next event.

Your Mates Brewing Co – The Basement Nambour
Two blokes dedicated to craft beer and bringing mates closer. Matt and Christen quit their jobs in 2014 to set up their laid back craft brewery. While Your Mates Brewing Co. has many Stockists along the coast, they are extremely fond of their own dive bar, The Basement, in Nambour. The chic bar is holed away underground and known for it’s focus on good friends, good times and great new beers. Grab the Larry Pale Ale, some locally made beef jerky and settle into the plush leather arm chairs for a night of easy conversations and vinyl records.

Sunshine Brewery – Maroochydore
Owned by the Skeg Craig Dunsdon and the Adrenalin Junkie Daryle Cook, Sunshine Brewery opened in 2015 and is dedicated to bringing fresh new beers to the table. With Influences from Eastern Europe, New Zealand and of course their home Australia, Sunshine Brewery offers a unique take on craft beer with 12 vastly different beers on rotation. For something different, try the Noosa Ruby a rich red ale with aromas of chocolate cola, rich berry and stone fruits and a dry finish. The venue is relaxed with long wooden benches and a kids playground nearby, they host a variety of local food trucks, so there’s always something new awaiting your return.

Sunshine Coast Brewery – Kunda
Founded in 1998 The Sunshine Coast Brewery is a long standing success and a true testament to beer lovers across the country. Now owned by the Curren family and Managed by Greg Curran the Sunshine Coast Brewery still resides in the Kunda Industrial Park and continues to lovingly craft a wide variety of beer. The venue itself houses three units, the brewery and bottling plant at the back alongside the bar and function room. With up to 10 beers on tap at a time plus whatever any experimental beers currently available the brewery leaves you spoilt for choice. If you’re looking to spice up your tastebuds try their Chili Beer or Hot Chilli Beer (not for the faint hearted). If you like what you taste you can buy bottled brews from the brewery itself, or you can buy online and have them shipped.

10 Toes – Alexandra Headland
Owner and head Brewer Rupert Hall spent 10 years as a dedicated, all-grain brewer before finally turning his passion into a profession. 10 Toes Brewery prides themselves on being an independent, family owned brewery with a philosophy on keeping things simple and enjoying the relaxed coastal lifestyle. The custom designed brew house allows them to create quality beers with reduced carbon footprints and water consumption. They currently have four staple brews, two seasonal brews and are working on a fresh range of pilot brews based on local feedback. With a strong love for community 10 Toes Brewery is often home to events such as open air movie nights and actively collaborate with local craft breweries to produce creative, one off batches for locals to try.

Brouhaha Brewery – Maleny
A boutique brewery by locals for locals. Their motto combines simple beer and simple food, reflecting their love for no additive, no preservative, locally sourced produce, both in the kitchen and in the brewery. Co-owned by Matt Jancauskas, Jeff Bess, Dave Lough, and Julian Leigh, Brouhaha has a flair for creativity with a drive to push the boundaries on what craft beer means. Their beer list is mind blowing with options such as Strawberry Rhubarb Sour, a kettle sour beer made with Maleny Dairies Natural Yoghurt, and stewed rhubarb and strawberries. Or, try Raising Hell, a Belgian Dubbel aged on rum soaked American oak with fresh raisins. They specialise in 4 beer tasting boards and a farm to table menu that has something for everyone.
