Trans-Tasmin Travel bubble Between Australia and New Zealand
The Australia and New Zealand governments have been in discussion about the possibility of a trans-Tasman bubble.
A travel industry working group are underway working towards this becoming a reality. A trans-Tasman Covid-safe Travel Zone would allow you to holiday around New Zealand and reunite with families and friends.
One-way safe travel is available outbound from New Zealand to eligible Safe Travel Zones in Australia without the requirement of quarantine on arrival. See more. At this stage there is no change for travel from Australia into New Zealand. Stay up to date on the latest government and travel restrictions.
New Zealand Travel Bubble With Australia
A travel bubble is an exclusive agreement between neighbouring countries that allows for travel across each other’s borders. Since the COVID-19 pandemic escalated in March 2020, countries globally began shutting their borders in an attempt to contain the spread of the virus.
Countries that have been able to combat the pandemic have begun talks of re-establishing connections between neighboring nations, opening borders to allow people to travel freely within the zones and requiring no mandatory quarantine on arrival.
The announcement came on the same day as the Australian state of Queensland opened its borders to New Zealanders, joining New South Wales and the Northern Territory. New Zealanders are allowed to travel to Australia without isolating, but must quarantine for two weeks on their return.
Australians eager to travel to New Zealand have to wait however as Ardern has ruled out a trans-Tasman bubble until February at the earliest.
When Would a Trans-Tasmin Travel Bubble Begin?
A one-way Safe Travel Zone has been introduced. Passengers from New Zealand will be able to travel to eligible Safe Travel Zones in Australia without the requirement for quarantine on arrival.
