At Daintree Ecolodge, we consider ourselves to be guardians of the Daintree. We have teamed up with Rainforest Rescue to support them in their efforts to protect the Daintree and halt the effects of deforestation.
WHO ARE RAINFOREST RESCUE
Rainforest Rescue are a non-for-profit organisation with the goal of protecting rainforests forever. The organisation has been protecting and preserving rainforests both in Australia and across the globe since 1998.
WHAT ARE THEY DOING TO HELP THE DAINTREE RAINFOREST
- Planted more than 50,000 trees in the Daintree.
- As part of their Buy Back program, Rainforest Rescue has contributed to the long-term protection of 31 properties within the Daintree. Their goal is to buy back 180 properties within the Daintree by 2030.
- Protecting the home of the Southern Cassowary. Protecting this species is extremely important, as it is estimated that 70-100 plant species depend on the cassowary for seed dispersal.
- By working with academics, universities and research institutions, Rainforest Rescue has assisted researchers in gaining a greater understanding of the Daintree, and consequently, best practice on how to protect it.
- Preventing harmful runoff to the Great Barrier Reef from the Daintree’s waterways.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
For every $5 donated, Rainforest Rescue are able to protect 1 square metre of the Daintree Rainforest. A $30 donation will plant and maintain three rainforest trees for two years. Donations are tax deductible.
